Cat-Man-Do

8x8" | acrylic, collage and charcoal on canvas | click here to bid

Every night at 11:35 Mort practices his talk show schtick with his sidekick, McMahon. With a fire in his belly and his chichi designer wardrobe it is the cat’s humble, but informed opinion that Letterman and Fallon have met their match.

Flight Of Fancy

8x16" diptych | acrylic, collage and white charcoal on canvas | click here to bid

Gustavo and Beckett were frequently mistaken for the former Las Vegas illusionists. But honestly, they were just a couple of hand-me-down fairies trying to keep all the balls in the air.

Nearly every day in a moment of quiet madness Raleigh considered flipping the bird. But he learned the hard way—winged vengeance is messy.

Tailchaser

8x8" | acrylic, collage and white charcoal on canvas | click here to bid

Pound Pup was convinced that the only thing that separated him from the earthling was his missing opposable thumbs and the irrepressible tail wagging. Other than that, it was a pretty level playing field.

Joe knew that taking Birdy for a walk on the Wild Side was flirting with disaster. But truth be told, the tingle of excitement running up his spine was worth an uncertain future.

Cat Lady

8x8" | acrylic, collage and white charcoal on canvas | sold

Margaret will occasionally fly off the handle and threaten to become one of those cat-ladies on FaceBook. But the truth of the matter is, that no matter what she says, she is a bona fide dog person. And that’s why Spike howls at the moon every single night of the week. And twice on Thursdays.

Fork In The Road. No Map.

18x24" | acrylic, oil, collage and charcoal

The title of this piece pretty much describes my state of mind these days. Just a tad "lost in the woods". No worries, though, just put a brush in my hand and point me toward a canvas (making sure, of course, that it has been well primed with black gesso, please). This is the companion piece to "Moonrise Over The Gardens Of Kismet"--I must say, they look just right hanging together.

Both paintings are proudly hanging at Marta Stafford Fine Art just a stone's throw from Austin. If you are in the area, pop on over and say hi to Marta and take a peek at my paintings in her lovely gallery.

Curious Cast Of Characters

8x6" | acrylic on canvas | sold

It was most definitely a delicate situation but Mathilde was certain that most folks had one or two bird brains in the family tree. Hers just happened to be downright undeniable. Proven time and again by the disturbance overhead every morning at sunrise.

Moonrise Over The Gardens Of Kismet

18x24" | acrylic, oil, collage and charcoal

This painting is part of a new series that places my characters in a setting: the forest, a garden or a city. These pieces have been an opportunity for a little R&D- my playground for experimenting with new materials and different techniques. Kinda like getting a new box of crayons and a fresh tub of Play-Doh--and it's not even my birthday

First I apply acrylic gels and pastes mixed with paint to get some amazing textures and then paint on top of that with oils. The texture really grabs the oil paint and makes some yummy color combinations. In the final step I draw on top of the paint and collage with charcoal pencils. Check out these detail shots:

This painting and it's companion painting, "Fork In The Road. No Map" are both at my Texas Gallery, Marta Stafford Fine Art. If you find yourself in the area stop in and say hi to Marta. She has a bunch of really great art in her charming gallery. And tell her I sent you!

Winnie

It takes a certain type of man to pull off a bow tie, she said. She reckoned that’s why she had a longstanding crush on Winston Churchill. That and his unmistakable British charm.

Free And Breezy

8x8" | acrylic on canvas | $150

Charlie's Closet

8x8" | acrylic on canvas | click here to bid

Charlie thought asking for a show of hands would be a good conversation starter. After all, he kept his in a very chichi box in the back of his closet. Unless it was the first Tuesday of the month in which case, he lent them out to those in need…of a hand.

Haywire

8x8" | acrylic on canvas | sold
